Special Congregational Listening on the MCUSA Resolutions, May 18 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Harrisonburg Mennonite Church 1552 South High Street Harrisonburg, VA, 22801 (map)

HMC will be hosting a congregational listening evening on May 18th at 6:30 PM to give members and attenders of our church the opportunity to share their hopes or concerns surrounding the MCUSA resolutions up for a vote in Kansas City at the end of May.  We will be sending six delegates to this Special Delegate Session, and they will be present to hear from our congregation at this May 18th listening evening.

There are two ways that you are invited to participate:

  1. You are invited to come to both listen to others’ stories and/or perspectives concerning the resolutions, and also to share your own story and/or perspective. Each person who wants to share will be given three minutes.

  2. The second way you can participate is by writing a one page letter that will be read at this meeting, if you would like to share anonymously. (Please send letters to me at jlee@harrisonburgmennonite.org.)

The purpose of this gathering is to give you a chance to be heard on these resolutions, and also to hear the perspective of others.  The overriding rule for the evening, whether in person or in writing, is respect, sensitivity, and compassion.  I will frame the purpose of the resolutions, read letters that are written, and give you an opportunity to speak.

The resolutions that will be discerned in Kansas City at the Special Delegate Assembly can be found here: https://www.mennoniteusa.org/special-delegate-session-22/
