Highland Retreat General Information & Policies for Guest Retreats
Please make special note of the following:
Pets are not permitted anywhere on Highland Retreat grounds. Animals that have been ‘individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability’ as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may be admitted provided that the animal does not fundamentally alter the program and/or retreat (please contact the office for additional guidance for service animals). Animals that provide comfort and emotional support are not permitted. Service animals in training are not permitted.
No smoking (including e-cigarettes and vaping), no tobacco products, no alcohol (wine used during church communion services is allowed), no illicit drugs, no profanity or obscene language.
The bathrooms are stocked with trash liners, toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap. Individuals are expected to bring all other toiletries.
Check in time is 4:00 p.m. and check out time is 2:00 p.m. Inquire before assuming any extensions of hours beyond these. Very few changes to arrival and departure times are available on Fridays and Sundays during the summer months as these are our busiest changeover days.
Phones (for local calls to Harrisonburg/Rockingham County) are located at Willowbrook bathhouse (near the Tabernacle), and the Main Office. The direct number to the Willowbrook bathhouse is 540-852-9214.
The direct address (for GPS routing for your individuals) for the Lower Highland Campground is 20591 Lower Highland Drive, Bergton, VA 22811. The address for our office (for group leader check-in, bill payment, etc.) is 14783 Upper Highland Drive, Bergton, VA 22811.
Cell phone coverage is limited on our grounds. T-Mobile (and other T-Mobile based networks) work well, Verizon (and other Verizon based networks) do not.
Wi-Fi is available at the Sassafras Pavilion (near the swimming pool and summer camp kitchen) and at the main office. A password will be provided to the group leader on your welcome packet.
Standard pool hours are Friday 6:30-9:30 PM, Saturday 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM, and Sunday 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM. Similar to last year, the largest youth group from Red Oak Lodge will be swimming from 1-3 on Saturday and Sunday, so there will be less people in the pool at the later times.
