From Biola University center for Christianity, Culture, and the Arts https://ccca.biola.edu/events/2023/dec/2/advent-project-2023-online-devotional-series/    Each day features Scripture, a devotional, a work of visual art, a poem, and a piece of music. This year focuses on the prophet Isaiah. Free, sign up at the link above.

Local Mennonite artists just released a new Advent/Christmas album: Soil and Seed Little Liturgies (Volume 8). Click on the link to access online for free. https://www.thesoilandtheseedproject.org/vol-8

Shalom: A 30 day prayer guide for Jakarta's Urban Poor, written by Pastor Carmen’s daughter and a friend under pseudonyms. While not written specifically for Advent, this could be used as a guide to prayer during this season. Hard copies are outside the office door, or you can access this on-line at the link above.

Children's Friendship Sunday

Children’s Friendship Sunday Celebration is 9:40-10:50 a.m.
Invitations are going home with children to invite a friend or two to come join us for this exciting Sunday.  Our Theme this year is “I Am a Promise!”  This involves all children from preschool through grade 6.  Some of our 7-8th graders will help us with games.  It’s our last hurrah together before we begin the new Sunday school year on September 3rd.  The new Kindergarteners will be coming to the D wing for games and snack after their storytime.

Children who are going into kindergarten will have a special blessing during the worship services.

MCC School Kits
The children’s department is filling 100 school kits in Sunday school class these next three weeks to help our sewing ladies with the MCC school kit challenge.  Items have been purchased and we can fill a kit for $5 each.  If you are able, please help fund several kits by bringing in offering or writing a check to HMC, memo: children’s offering.  It will be exciting for children to help put these school kits together as they too get ready for school. Preschool will help fill kits too!

Ice Cream Social & Movie Viewing

Join us on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. for an ice cream social and intergenerational viewing of DreamWorks The Prince of Egypt (PG). This 90-minute animated musical follows the life of Moses as told in the beginning of the book of Exodus. What a great way to begin winding up our summer sermon series.

Here is the trailer for the movie if you would like to learn more: https://www.google.com/search?q=the+prince+of+egypt+trailer&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS772US772&oq=the+prince+of+Egypt+trailer&aqs=chrome.0.0i512j0i22i30i395l3j0i390i395i650l2j69i61.7501j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Parents: The Common Sense Media movie review* recommends this movie for those 8 and above with the following concerns, "There are scenes of enslaved people being whipped, hit, and verbally and physically abused. Hieroglyphic art shows babies being thrown into crocodile-infested waters. Moses kills an overseer of enslaved people." The movie is rated PG, not G. If parents would like to see clips of the actual scenes mentioned, you can click on the links below. * https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/the-prince-of-egypt
